Mahfud said on Friday that despite a public apology and efforts to find amiable solutions from the family of Mario Dandy Satrio, a suspect in an assault against a 15-year-old boy in South Jakarta, the police should press ahead with their criminal investigation.
oordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD has called on police investigators to prosecute the assault case involving the son of a rich tax official to the fullest extent of the law.
Mahfud said on Friday that despite a public apology and efforts to find amiable solutions from the family of Mario Dandy Satrio, a suspect in an assault against a 15-year-old boy in South Jakarta, the police should press ahead with their criminal investigation.
"There's no such thing as apology or amiable settlement in a legal case. We do have a restorative justice solution for minor crime. But this assault case involving the son of an official must be legally prosecuted," Mahfud said in a tweet posted on Friday from his handle @mohmahfudmd.
The senior security minister also called for an "administrative" probe into Mario's father, a tax official at the South Jakarta Tax Office identified as Rafael Alun Trisambodo, who was alleged to have lived a lavish lifestyle as indicated by his son's collection of expensive SUVs and big bikes.
"From a legal administrative standpoint, a public official with children living hedonistic and lavish lifestyles should be investigated," Mahfud said.
The South Jakarta Police have named Mario and another person as suspects in the assault case, while Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati removed Rafael from his position as tax official early on Friday and ordered an internal probe into his wealth.
