ouse of Representatives Commission VII overseeing energy and mineral resources has scheduled a hearing with the leadership of the state energy company PT Pertamina to demand accountability for the fire in the North Jakarta fuel storage facility, which so far has killed 18 people.
Deputy chairman of House Commission VII Eddy Suparno said in a statement that the meeting with the Pertamina executive board would be the first order of the day when lawmakers started their next sitting session on March 13.
"We will definitely summon the leadership of Pertamina in the next sitting session to get a full account of the event," Eddy said.
House Commission VII also called for a thorough investigation over the fuel storage fire and demanded the state energy company to compensate all victims of the accident.
"Of course, Pertamina has to take full responsibility over the deaths, injury and loss of property from the incident," he said.
Government officials have called for an investigation and an audit of Pertamina's facilities after the North Jakarta fire.
The fire, which started at around 8 p.m. on Friday from a fuel pipe at the Plumpang fuel storage depot in Jakarta, quickly spread to nearby houses and sent residents in the densely populated area into a panic.
"I have ordered Pertamina to immediately investigate this case thoroughly," State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir said via his Instagram page.
