Jokowi’s son, Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, confirmed on Thursday that the President had bought a ticket.
resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo will join thousands of Deep Purple fans for a concert by the legendary British rock group in Surakarta, Central Java, on Friday.
Jokowi’s son, Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, confirmed on Thursday that the President had bought a ticket.
Ganjar had also purchased a ticket for the show and would join the President at the venue, Gibran added.
"Both have bought tickets, and thanks to everyone who has purchased a ticket. It's sold out I believe," he said.
The mayor had said earlier that the organizers would not be giving out tickets for free, so if the President wanted to attend he would have to purchase one for himself.
Ganjar sent a tweet from his handle @ganjarpranowo on Tuesday saying he would be attending the concert and called on fans to rock out to Deep Purple's biggest hit, "Smoke on the Water".
"Don't forget to jump around to ‘Smoke on the Water’ or scream at the top of your lungs to ‘Child in Time’ or romance to ‘Soldier of Fortune’. We need to do it together," Ganjar said.
Both Jokowi and Ganjar are avid rock fans and have been spotted at a number of high-profile rock concerts in Jakarta and elsewhere in the country.
