Medan Police nab 9 of 13 suspects for stoning officers

The suspects allegedly pelted police officers with stones during a drug and gambling raid on Monday that left four officers injured.

edan Police have named 13 men as suspects of an assault on police officers during a drug and gambling raid in Kutalimbaru district in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.

Comr. Teuku Fathir Mustafa, head of criminal investigation at the municipal police force, said on Thursday that nine of the 13 suspects had been arrested, while the other four remained at large.

Four policemen were injured in the stoning attack during the raid on Monday, which was conducted in Tanjung Pamah hamlet of Namorube village in Kutalimbaru. Police fired warning shots during the raid.

“Benni, as the owner of a gambling den, has been arrested for assaulting police,” Fathir said.

The police raid was launched following a tip from local residents. (dre)
