N. Sumatra Police officer arrested for failing to stop son’s assault of student

he North Sumatra Police have arrested officer Adj. Sr. Comr. Achirudin Hasibuan for failing to intervene to stop his son from assaulting a university student in December.
Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Hadi Wahyudi said Achirudin was also relieved of his duty as chief of operations at the provincial police drug crimes directorate.
“Achirudin Hasibuan was found guilty of violating the ethics code for allowing his son to conduct criminal action,” Hadi told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
Achirudin’s 19-year-old son, Aditya Hasibuan, has been charged with assault under Article 351 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
Aditya allegedly assaulted a 19-year-old university student on Dec. 21, 2022, and damaged his car.
The next day, the victim went to Aditya’s house in Medan to demand compensation, but Aditya allegedly assaulted him again, in front of his father.
“The perpetrator's parent was at the location, but instead of intervening, he did nothing as the perpetrator assaulted the victim,” said North Sumatra Police chief of criminal investigations Sr. Comr. Sumaryono.
Both the victim and Aditya filed police reports against each other following the incident.
A video of the alleged assault has been circulating on social media, gaining attention because of its similarity to an alleged assault by Mario Dandy Satrio against the teenage son of a member of GP Ansor, the youth wing of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the nation’s largest grassroots Muslim organization, which was also recorded and made the national headlines.
Mario’s alleged assault brought public attention to his family’s lavish lifestyle, including his possession of a Jeep Rubicon and Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Earlier this month, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Mario’s father, former mid-ranking tax collector Rafael Alun Trisambodo, a suspect on charges of taking bribes from taxpayers for the past 12 years. (dre)
