Military Police investigators have named six Indonesian Army personnel suspects in the assault of a group of campaign volunteers for presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo in Boyolali, Central Java.
IV/Diponegoro Military Command (Kodam) spokesman Col. Richard Harison said the Military Police had named the six soldiers suspects after questioning them and examining evidence.
Richard identified the six by their initials only. They are all of the rank of second private, the lowest in the Army.
The soldiers are members of the Boyolali-based B Rifle Company of the 408/Suhbrastha Infantry Battalion. The battalion itself is headquartered in the neighboring Sragen regency.
The case will be handed to a military prosecutor before being tried in a military court.
"The [Indonesian Military (TNI)], in this case, Kodam IV/Diponegoro, will not intervene," Richard said in Semarang on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Kodam Diponegoro oversees the provinces of Central Java and Yogyakarta and has its headquarters in Semarang.
