Khofifah Indar has announced that she is temporarily stepping away from her role as the head of Muslimat NU to join the Prabowo-Gibran camp.
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has announced her decision to temporarily step down from her role as the head of Nahdlatul Ulama's (NU) women's wing, Muslimat NU, as she is joining the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka National Campaign Team (TKN).
Khofifah said that she submitted the letter regarding her decision to the NU Central Executive Board (PBNU) on Saturday.
"Tonight, I'll give the letter to the PBNU to no longer be active in my role because I'm also one of the heads of the PBNU. So, Insya Allah [God willing], tomorrow [Sunday] I will be non-active," said Khofifah on Saturday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Before Khofifah's announcement, Prabowo-Gibran campaign chief Rosan Roeslani said that Khofifah had been appointed as the spokesperson for the TKN.
Rosan said that Khofifah would also be taking days off from her duties to assist the team during the campaign season.
PBNU chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf affirmed that the Islamic organization took a neutral stance regarding the presidential election and would not support any of the presidential nominees.
Consequently, he said that Khofifah could no longer be active as the head of Muslimat NU once she became a part of the Prabowo-Gibran camp.
