Bawaslu says a revote for postal and mobile ballot voting methods in Kuala Lumpur had been recommended by the regional supervisory committee, urging the public’s continued vigilance toward the voting count process.
The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) announced on Wednesday that the Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) in Kuala Lumpur had recommended a revote for postal voting and mobile ballot box methods in the entire Malaysian capital region.
This recommendation was based on Panwaslu’s observations of the voting process from Feb. 4 to 10, in which it had found alleged administrative violations of the election process, Rahmat Bagja said in a press conference, as broadcast by Kompas TV.
Rahmat confirmed the incident in a video showing several ballot papers being controlled and then cast in Kuala Lumpur, and said it was one of the reasons for recommending a revote.
"Due to the numerous incidents of violations that subsequently impacted the postal and mobile ballot box voting methods in Kuala Lumpur," he said.
Panwaslu Kuala Lumpur has issued several other recommendations, including not counting the results of postal and mobile ballot box voting methods in Kuala Lumpur.
Panwaslu Kuala Lumpur also recommended updating the voters’ list for postal and mobile ballot box methods and not to include those who had voted in polling stations.
Also recommended was an evaluation of the postal voting method and consider alternative methods to prevent similar incidents in the future.
