The House of Representatives and the government have rescinded the appointment of the vice president as Jakarta Agglomeration Council chair, authorizing the president to make the decisions.
he House of Representatives’ Legislation Body (Baleg) has reached an agreement with the government on a key amendment to the Jakarta Special Region (DKJ) bill on the appointment of the chair and members of the Jakarta Agglomeration Council
The new provision assigns the president the responsibility, while previously it would automatically designate the vice president as the council head.
The change aims to simplify the governance structure and ensure clarity of constitutional roles within the Jakarta administration.
Baleg chairman Supratman Andi Atgas said that specifics regarding the council's operation and appointment procedures would be established through a presidential decree.
"The president will make appointments through a presidential decree, thus resolving any constitutional issues that may arise," Supratman said during the working committee meeting on Thursday, as reported by Antara news agency.
Baleg member Mardani Ali Sera expressed support for the revised draft.
Mardani emphasized the distinction between the Jakarta council and the Papua Special Autonomy Steering Committee (BP3OKP), which can be led by the vice president.
