Jokowi shares warm exchange with Puan amid tense relations with PDI-P
Sunday’s encounter between Puan and Jokowi took place around a month after the PDI-P confirmed that the former Jakarta governor was no longer a member of the party, ending a decade-long alliance between the President and the party that had backed his rise.

ouse of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani shared a warm exchange with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo when the two met at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, despite icy relations between the President and Puan’s Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
The two politicians appeared to be all smiles when Jokowi welcomed Puan, daughter of PDI-P matriarch Megawati Soekarnoputri, to the international event’s gala dinner on Sunday at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park in Bali.
Dressed in a white satin kebaya (traditional blouse) paired with a black-and-gold Balinese-styled woven long skirt, Puan was the last guest to arrive for the gala dinner. After greeting each other and posing for a photo, the two walked to the banquet area together.
Both Puan and Jokowi later burst into laughter after the President appeared to dance in his chair during the art performance on the sidelines of the gala dinner.
Puan explained that she chatted about the event during her encounter with Jokowi.
“The event was good, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was warm. It was very spectacular and a long-awaited meeting,” Puan said on Monday, as quoted by Antara state news agency.
Asked whether she talked about other subjects with the President, she claimed that there was a variety of subjects of conversation with Jokowi.
