Rising political star and Kendal Regent Dico has spoken with Raffi about their potentially pairing up to contest the Central Java gubernatorial race in November.
elevision personality and social media influencer Raffi Ahmad has been tapped to run for Central Java deputy governor alongside gubernatorial aspirant Dico Ganundito, the incumbent Kendal regent, in the province’s regional head elections come November.
"I want him to consider the proposal. I am serious about the plan, especially if the numbers in the public opinion polls are good. And also if the enthusiasm is good," Dico said on Tuesday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
A number of billboards showing the Dico-Raffi gubernatorial pair promoting small and medium enterprises have begun to pop up in several cities across Central Java in recent weeks, prompting speculation that the two would soon launch their formal bid.
Dico, a 37-year-old politician from the Golkar Party, is considered a rising star in Central Java politics, and was once tapped as the running mate of Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka if he decided to bid for the province’s top post in the 2024 regional head elections.
The eldest son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo instead won the presidential election on Feb. 14 as Prabowo Subianto’s vice presidential pick.
Raffi has said he would consider Dico's offer, with a condition: "I will first consult my family and also my wife," he said, referring to TV personality and entrepreneur Nagita Slavina.
