P

resident-elect Prabowo Subianto met on Thursday with leaders of parties that backed his bid for the country’s highest office, but the notable absence of key allies of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo renewed speculation about whether the incoming president’s allegiances could be shifting.

The defense minister posted black and white photos on his official Instagram account on Thursday showing him, wearing a white shirt, hosting a meeting of leaders from major parties in his Onward Indonesia Coalition (KIM): the Democratic Party’s Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the Golkar Party’s Airlangga Hartarto and the National Mandate Party’s (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan.

The meeting took place in an office at the Defense Ministry building in Jakarta.

The photos also showed Anis Matta, chairman of the Gelora Party, which is not represented in the legislature and which joined the KIM ahead of the February presidential election, and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir. The minister-turned-businessman had been up against Gibran to serve as Prabowo’s running mate in this year’s election.

But apparently missing from the meeting, as suggested by photos posted on Prabowo’s Instagram account, were officials from other parties in the coalition, such as the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), which is led by Jokowi’s youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep; the Crescent Star Party (PBB); the Garuda Party and the Prima Party.
