s one of the latest surgical innovations, telerobotic surgery has increasingly attracted urologists’ interest for its ability to overcome geographical barriers and achieve safer surgery as well as better outcomes.

With the rising burden of urologic diseases in Indonesia, telerobotic surgery has reached the peak of its relevance in the country’s healthcare sector, as the robotic technology and wireless networks it uses can connect patients and surgeons who live in separate areas.

The robotic-assisted procedure further allows doctors to perform surgery with more precision, thereby helping patients recover faster.

Furthermore, telerobotic surgery could reduce the burden of substantial non-direct medical costs because with this technology, patients no longer need to go far away to access surgical specialists. This is especially important for Indonesia because of the limited number of urologists and urologic subspecialists.

Unfortunately, despite its huge potential, robotic surgery is performed at only two hospitals across the archipelago, and telesurgery technology is not yet available.
