One month before the end of his decade-long presidency, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has warned his ministers not to issue extreme policies and to uphold stability to facilitate the transition of power.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on his cabinet ministers to maintain stability in the country to enable progress and development, requesting that they to refrain from “making extreme policies” that could potentially cause widespread turmoil as his decade-long presidency enters its final month.
Ministers of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet, the cabinet Jokowi assembled after his reelection in 2019, gathered for the last time on Friday at the Garuda Palace in the future capital city of Nusantara in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan.
The Friday meeting, the last before the inauguration of Defense Minister and president-elect Prabowo Subianto is to be sworn in as the country’s eighth president, put the topic of government transition at the forefront of the farewell assembly. Also attending the meeting were Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Gen. Agus Subianto, National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin.
Jokowi said that it was imperative that all elements of the government work together to secure the success of Prabowo’s programs. In hopes that the next administration will hit the ground running, he cautioned the ministers to be careful when making policies, lest risk large-scale chaos.
“Continue maintaining a conducive environment [and] make sure that there won’t be disturbances and disorder before the formation of the next government,” Jokowi ordered.
“Don’t make any extreme policies, especially those affecting the livelihoods of many, those that are potentially harmful to society in general and which could cause turmoil,” the President continued.
