Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) politicians Raja Juli Antoni, Isyana Bagus Oka and Giring Ganesha were among the figures summoned by president-elect Prabowo Subianto ahead of the unveiling of his incoming cabinet.
he Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) is one of the few political parties without seats in the House of Representatives to have members called up to join the cabinet of president-elect Prabowo Subianto in two days of meetings at his Jl. Kertanegara residence in Jakarta.
Prabowo has summoned more than 100 figures for closed-door talks at his home since Monday, ahead of his inauguration on Oct. 20 and the eventual unveiling of his cabinet, expected to be Indonesia’s biggest in decades.
The inauguration ends the decade-long rule of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, whose youngest son Kaesang Pangarep was installed as PSI chairman as part of a foiled attempt to find a political vehicle for the retiring leader.
While analysts initially speculated that Kaesang could be given a prominent position in the next government, it was his PSI colleagues who were summoned instead.
PSI executive and current Deputy Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Raja Juli Antoni had an audience with the Gerindra Party chairman on Monday, while PSI cofounder Isyana Bagoes Oka and former chairman Giring Ganesha met with Prabowo on Tuesday.
When asked to confirm speculation that he could be appointed environment and forestry minister, Raja Juli said only Prabowo had the right to announce his position.
“I was instructed to help [Prabowo], though for ethics’ sake we’ll wait for him to make it clear in what position I will serve the country,” he said, as quoted by Kompas TV.
