Newly sworn in President Prabowo Subianto announced the lineup of his cabinet at the Presidential Palace on Sunday evening.
“I’ve called it the ‘Red-and-White’ cabinet,” Prabowo said.
The cabinet, composed of 48 ministers, is bigger than those of his predecessor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Sixteen former ministers who served in Jokowi’s administration are among the new appointees, either retaining the same jobs or serving in new posts. They include Bahlil Lahadalia, Tito Karnavian and Pratikno, all of whom are considered close aides of Jokowi. Both Bahlil and Tito continue their jobs, respectively, as energy and mineral resources minister and home minister under Prabowo’s presidency.
In Prabowo’s cabinet, Pratikno will assume the position of coordinating human development and culture minister, which was held by Muhadjir Effendy during Jokowi’s second presidency.
Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka took their oaths of office on Sunday morning in a session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) in Jakarta, following their landslide victory in February on the back of tacit support from Gibran’s father, former president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
