Bandung to expand Wolbachia trials

he Bandung city administration in West Java plans to release the eggs of lab-bred mosquitoes carrying the Wolbachia bacteria in another district in an effort to control the spread of dengue fever.

The city’s Health Agency has been deploying the eggs in several subdistricts in Ujungberung district since November last year.

Anhar Hadian, the agency chief, said on Thursday that the city was planning to distribute mosquito eggs in Kiaracondong district.

“We’re optimistic the trial in Kiaracondong will be smooth as it has been with Ujungberung. Leaders and officials in Ujungberung have been responding positively to the trials,” Anhar said as quoted by Antara.
