tate-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) launched on Tuesday a panoramic car journey from Surabaya to Banyuwangi in East Java, coinciding with the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The panoramic car, which has 38 seats, is part of the Mutiara Timur train, departing from Surabaya Pasar Turi Station at 9:15 a.m. and arriving at Ketapang Station at 3:45 p.m.
The return journey from Ketapang Station is scheduled to depart at 9:45 p.m. and arrive at Surabaya Pasar Turi Station at 4:21 a.m. This panoramic car service will only operate until Jan. 5, 2025.
The ticket price for the Surabaya-Banyuwangi panoramic train is Rp 600,000 (US$37.04).
The panoramic car, featuring large windows, including those on the roof of the carriage, allows passengers to enjoy the scenic views along the route from inside the train.
“Passengers can simply sit in luxurious and comfortable seats while enjoying the natural beauty throughout the journey,” said vice president of the company's Operational Region (Daop) 9 Jember, Hengky Prasetyo, on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
"KAI Daop 9 Jember aims to provide a unique travel experience for the public,” he said.
