N

ewly elected West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has announced plans to construct a dedicated mine haul road in Parung Panjang district, Bogor regency, in response to the alarming number of fatal traffic accidents caused by mining operations in the area.

In the past six years, 194 people lost their lives on Jl. Parung Panjang, where hundreds of mining trucks collectively make 1,600 trips every day.

There have been reports in recent years of underage drivers or those lacking proper training operating these trucks.

Many of the mining trucks are also overloaded, which not only makes them more susceptible to accidents but also accelerates road wear, further raising safety concerns for all road users.

During the dry season, the trucks kick up large amounts of dust, severely impairing visibility, while in the rainy season, the poor road conditions make the surface dangerously slippery.

According to officials, approximately 14 kilometers of the 28-kilometer stretch of Jalan Parung Panjang are in poor condition.
