Nine out of 18 candidates, including a former KPK chair, have been shortlisted for the 2025-2028 Press Council.

ine new members, comprising journalists, media company representatives and public figures, have been shortlisted to serve on the Press Council for the 2025-2028 period.

Representing journalists on the council are Tempo editor Abdul Manan, Antara photographer Maha Eka Swasta and Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) journalist Muhammad Jazuli. Abdul previously served as chairperson of the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) between 2017 and 2021.

Representing media companies are Tribun News Network CEO Dahlan Dahi, Lombok TV director Yogi Hadi Ismanto and TV One deputy chief editor Totok Suryanto, an incumbent council member.

The public is represented by Komaruddin Hidayat, a Muslim scholar and former rector of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN); Busyro Muqoddas, a former chair of the Corruption Eradication Eradication (KPK); and Rosarita Niken Widiastuti, a former secretary-general of the Communications and Information Ministry who also led state-owned radio station RRI from 2010 to 2015.

Bambang Santoso, chairman of the Press Council Election Body (BPPA), said the nine successful candidates had been selected from a pool of 18.

Following a selection process that began on Feb. 19, the BPPA handed over the final list of selected candidates to current council chair Ninik Rahayu during a meeting on Tuesday at the Press Council’s offices in Central Jakarta.
