T

he Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) has raised the alert status of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, to the highest level following multiple massive eruptions from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Herman Yosef Mboro, who works at the volcano monitoring post (PGA) at Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, reported that between midnight and 6 a.m. local time on Wednesday, the volcano oozed lava as far as 2 kilometers, predominantly to the north and northeast.

The PGA also reported that there were several tectonic activities recorded during the period, including an eruption, one lava flow, one non-harmonics tremor and one shallow volcanic tremor.

“The crater’s fumes have low to medium pressure and are white in color with medium to thick intensity, reaching a height of between 500 and 1,000 meters above the crater peak,” Herman said, as quoted by Kompas.com.

Also being monitored was an eruption with a height of 1,000 meters with gray fumes.

The weather around the volcano was mostly clear with some clouds, with a weak wind blowing toward the north and northeast. The temperature ranged between 18 and 20 degrees.
