he Civilization Institute will hold a Civilization Speech on Wednesday calling on the world community to stop provocations and work on dialogue, collaboration and hope, in the face of various crises in the world.
The institute sees the current situation where multilateral organizations have lost their power and trust, Civilization Institute Foundation chairman Dipo Alam said in a press release on Monday.
“The Civilization institute sees that the way out from the crisis is not only owned by big countries. The world currently needs moral leadership which prioritize wisdom and not strength, empathy and not domination,” Dipo said in the release.
“We invite former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to deliver the speech because he had the experience of solving various conflicts, both at home and in the region during his term.”
Dipo, who was the Cabinet Secretary during Yudhoyono’s second presidential term, said while Indonesia back then was still far away from regional conflict, we have recently seen conflict return, namely along the Cambodian-Thai border.
“This is a huge event for Southeast Asia, especially for ASEAN. For the first time since 1967, ASEAN members failed to solve a conflict through consensus which became an armed conflict,” he said.
“Many countries are on the brink of becoming failed states because of various crisis. One measurement is the increasing number of refugees from year to year.”
Looking at the escalating situation, Dipo said that regional and multilateral organizations have lost their authority and influence.
“We need a diplomatic movement which involves the world community, not only inter-state political diplomacy. We need a global coalition to reduce the world’s tension,” he said.
Dipo said that history of world civilizations has taught that dialogue was the main foundation for progress and peace.
“Dialogue is the fortress against chaos, so the dialogue narrative must be voiced louder,” he said.
“We need more people speaking about dialogue and less people igniting conflicts. That’s why the Civilization Institute has organized the speech.”
Already confirming their attendance were Coordinating Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya.
Other invitees included state-owned lender Bank BNI president commissioner Didik J. Rachbini, state-owned port operator PT Pelindo chief commissioner Agus Suhartono, PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik president commissioner, Fachry Ali, The Habibie Center executive director Mohammad Hasan Ansori, BPJS Kesehatan president director Ali Gufron Mukti and philosopher Franz Magnis Suseno.
Also invited are representatives from five embassies, India, Iran, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.
