Indonesia U-17 soccer team places second in the 2025 Independence Cup after losing to Mali

The match against Indonesia secured Mali the championship title of the 2025 Independence Cup. The Mali U-17 team finished the tournament with a perfect record, collecting 9 points after earlier victories over Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

ndonesia's U-17 soccer team finished second in the 2025 Independence Cup after narrowly losing to Mali 1-2 on Monday night at the North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang.

The match between the two participants of the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup was intense from the first whistle, with both sides playing at a high tempo in front of a crowd of around 21,000 fans.

In the 6th minute, Indonesia’s goal was nearly breached when Mali’s Raymond Bomba delivered a powerful header that was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Dafa Al Gasemi.

Mali continued to press and finally broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, when a header from Zoumana Ballo found the back of the net, giving Mali a 1-0 lead.

The West African side doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute through Seydou Dembele, whose fierce left-footed strike found the top-right corner of the net, leaving the Indonesian keeper with no chance.

Despite trailing by two goals, Indonesia responded with determination. Just three minutes later, in the 36th minute, Fadly Alberto Hengga scored with a well-placed header following a long throw-in from Fabio, bringing the score to 1-2 before halftime.
