T

he National Police are launching an investigation into two explosions at SMAN 72 state senior high school in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Friday which injured 96 people, including a student who is suspected of perpetrating the incident.

The two blasts occurred around midday on Friday at the mosque inside the school complex, when male Muslim students were performing Friday prayers at the place of worship. SMAN 72 is located in a residential complex owned by the Indonesian Navy.

All of the injured students were taken to the Jakarta Islamic Hospital, Yarsi Hospital and Pertamina Hospital in Central Jakarta. Most of the injured patients had been discharged as of Saturday, while 29 remain hospitalized with at least two in the intensive care unit.

Most of the students reportedly experienced hearing problems from the blast.

The police began to investigate the incident on Friday evening, with one SMAN 72 student identified as the alleged perpetrator of the explosion, said National Police chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Investigators, however, have not officially named the student as a suspect in the case.
