he Immigration Directorate General has detained 26 foreigners following an alleged attack on five soldiers in a gold mining site owned by PT Sultan Rafli Mandiri (SRM) in Tumbang Titi district, Ketapang, West Kalimantan, on Sunday.
“Some 26 foreigners are currently being detained in Ketapang Immigration Office,” acting immigration director general Yuldi Yusman said at the Immigration and Correctional Ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
He said Ketapang Immigration Office was checking the foreigners’ visa documents.
“As for the vandalism [and attack] carried out by the foreigners, this is being handled by West Kalimantan Police. Perhaps by Ketapang Police,” he said.
Yuldi said the number of foreigners to be detained could rise given that there is a total of 34 foreigners in the mining area.
“The total number of foreigners is actually 34 but two were requesting permission to go to Pontianak to extend their visas and there is another foreigner who is ill and currently is undergoing treatment,” he said.
