No tsunami threat after earthquake of magnitude 7 strikes Kalimantan

The quake was at a depth of 633 km (393.33 miles), GFZ said. It initially reported the quake at 7.1 but revised the figure.

magnitude 7 earthquake struck just off the north coast of Kalimantan in the early hours of Monday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said. 

The quake was at a depth of 633 km (393.33 miles), GFZ said. It initially reported the quake at 7.1 but revised the figure.

The US Tsunami warning center said there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake.

In November last year, a magnitude 6.6-earthquake hit an island off the coast of Sumatra in, with no immediate reports of damages or tsunami warning.

The quake, which struck Simeulue Island at a depth of 25 kilometres, prompted locals on the island to immediately rush outside.

A magnitude-6.2 quake that shook Sulawesi island in January 2021 killed more than 100 people and left thousands homeless.
