he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq in an antigraft operation, marking the second time in two months that a regent from Central Java has been detained on corruption allegations.
Fadia was arrested by KPK investigators in the early hours of Tuesday in Semarang. Authorities also detained 13 other people in connection with the case, including the regent’s adjutants and close aides, her son M. Sabiq Ashraff and Pekalongan secretary Mohammad Yulian Akbar.
All the detainees were taken to the KPK headquarters in Jakarta for questioning.
The antigraft agency has named Fadia a suspect and placed her in detention at its facility until March 23 as investigators continue to probe the case.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Asep Guntur Rahayu, KPK’s deputy for enforcement and execution, said Fadia had allegedly manipulated public procurement tenders for goods and services in Pekalongan regency so they would be awarded to companies linked to her family.
“The scheme has been running since Fadia’s first term in office from 2021 to 2024,” Asep said, as quoted by Kompas.id.
According to Asep, Fadia’s husband, Muktarudin Ashraff Abu, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR), and their son Sabiq established a procurement firm, PT Raja Nusantara Berjaya (RNB) in 2022, which operates in the goods and services sector.
