entral Java expects to see 6 million visitors amid a surge in the number of vehicles entering the province over the mudik (exodus) travel during the annual Ramdan-Idul Fitri holiday season.
“The main [destination] for mudik is Central Java. The data show there has been an increase from last year,” Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi said on Friday, the eve of Idul Fitri, as quoted by state news agency Antara.
Preliminary data compiled from the central government, the provincial administration, the National Police and the military showed that around 1.3 million vehicles had entered Central Java by March 20, compared to roughly 750,000 vehicles that had departed the province.
The surge in vehicle numbers is expected to boost the region's tourism industry, and the Central Java administration projects that around 6 million tourists will be visiting various local attractions.
Earlier, Central Java Tourism Agency head Hanung Triyono said the high tourist projection was in line with the estimated total of 17.3 million mudik travelers.

“Around 6 million people will travel. This is a huge number, so comfort and security must be ensured,” Hanung said, as quoted by Detik.com.
