T

hree accidents involving buses took place during the Idul Fitri mudik (holiday exodus) season in Central Java killing three people, mostly due to reckless driving.

Two people died after a Mitsubishi Expander hit a bus at Km. 368 of Batang-Semarang toll road in Kedawung village, Banyuputih district, Batang regency, on Thursday, Kompas.com reported.

The victims were identified as driver Andi Endarto and passenger Athaya Riski Wistarajaya. Two other passengers suffered from injuries.

The accident happened at about 10:45 a.m. when one-way traffic was implemented on the toll road in the direction of from Jakarta to Semarang.

The Mitsubishi Expander hit a PO 27 Trans bus which had been stationary due to engine issues.

Batang Police Traffic Unit chief Adj. Comr. Eka Hendra Ardiansyah said the accident most likely occurred because the driver was not paying attention to traffic or was sleepy and did not realize there was a bus stopping ahead.
