Police probe doctor's alleged suicide amid claims of intimidation by DPRD members

Victor said the incident had a severe impact on Eliza’s mental health, after which she became withdrawn, quiet and increasingly fearful. According to the family, she was later diagnosed with severe depression by a psychiatrist and admitted to Leona Hospital for intensive psychiatric care on June 15.

olice and the Health Ministry have launched an investigation into the alleged suicide of a female doctor in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, after allegations emerged that she had been intimidated by local councillors while on duty.

Kupang Police chief Sr. Adj. Comr. Rudy Junus Jacob Ledo said officers had secured the scene, collected evidence and interviewed witnesses as part of the investigation.

"Upon receiving the report, our personnel immediately went to the scene to collect evidence and obtain preliminary statements from witnesses," Rudy said on Sunday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

"Every step was carried out professionally to ensure that all facts at the scene were properly documented," he added.

Eliza Princila Utami Pakanaeni, 28, was found dead by her parents on Friday afternoon in Kupang.

According to her family, the young doctor had been suffering from severe depression after she was allegedly intimidated by three councillors while working in the intensive care unit at Leona Kefamenanu General Hospital in North Central Timor regency on June 13.

According to the young doctor’s uncle, Victor Manbait, Eliza, known to her family as Icha, was on duty treating a child who had been bitten by a green pit viper that day. He said all medical procedures she carried out were in line with the hospital’s standard operating procedures and conducted under the supervision of a pediatric specialist.
