he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested Langkat Regent Syah “Ondim” Afandin for alleged briberies in procurement projects at the education agency and housing and settlement agency in Langkat regency, North Sumatra.
Ondim was arrested on Thursday afternoon during a dinner banquet held for regents at the anniversary of the Indonesian Regency Administration Association (Apkasi) in Lubukpakam, Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatra.
In addition to Syah Afandin, the KPK also arrested a Langkat regency administration civil servant and five private individuals. The seven were arrested at different places in Medan city, Binjai city and Langkat regency.
The arrest was just several days after the KPK arrested Riau’s Kuantan Singingi Regent Suhardiman Amby on Monday in an alleged bribery case related to the appoint of the regency administration’s secretary.

Langkat Communication and Informatics Agency head Wahyudianto said his office had yet to receive official information on the regent’s position or legal status.
“We are still waiting for the KPK’s official statement,” he told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
