A

n exhibition of 146-year-old wayang kulit (leather puppets) has been opened at Simon Fraser University's Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology in British Columbia, Canada, until January next year.

The collection of up to 600 puppets originally belonged to an Indonesian citizen named Ferdinand Chen who moved to Canada in the early 1960s.

The exhibition is being held as part of the university's 50th anniversary celebration in collaboration with the archipelago's consulate general in Vancouver.

Antara news agency reported on Monday that about 100 guests at the opening ceremony were treated to a traditional Javanese gamelan music show performed by the gamelan class of the university's School for Contemporary Arts, led by Sutrisno Hartana, an Indonesian who lectures at the institution.
