Below are some of the things you need to consider when visiting newborns.
ince newborns are extremely sensitive creatures, as they are still adapting to a new environment, anyone visiting one should follow a set of rules, no matter how close you are with the mother.
Below are some of the things you need to consider when visiting newborns, as compiled by tempo.co:
Make appointment
It is advisable to let the parents know beforehand that you will be visiting. Although one mother's condition will be different from another after giving birth, most need time to adjust to the situation or to rest during the postnatal recovery.

Do not stay too long
It is best to stay for a maximum of one hour when visiting, unless the mom asks you to stay longer.
Wash your hands
Since everything about the baby is extremely sensitive, wash your hands before touching them, if possible using antibacterial gel to avoid unnecessary germs that could lead to infection. If necessary, check your health before coming in, especially if you have the flu or cold.

Do not give unwanted advice
If the mom herself asks you questions about lactating, sleeping patterns, or post-natal recovery, you should answer based on your own experience (if you have given birth before), or provide a trustworthy reference.
Do not bring children
By not bringing any children with you, you can focus your attention on the mother and newborn. If you must take your children, only bring those older than 6 years to ensure they will behave well during the visit and not make the situation uncomfortable. (vod/kes)
