short movie titled Semua Karena (It's All About) that focuses on the turmoils of the recent Jakarta gubernatorial election has been nominated for the 33rd Hamburg International Short Film Festival’s Three Minute Quickie Competition category.
Slated to run on June 6-12 in Hamburg, Germany, the festival will showcase more than 300 short movies from 40 countries. Semua Karena is reportedly the only Indonesian film featured at the event.
The 90-second movie features local heroes on Rupiah bills. Replacing actors, the money is folded to create various facial expressions.

“The movie was created using a smartphone camera,” director Deden M Sahid told tempo.co on Saturday. "Instead of commenting [about the Jakarta election] on social media, I [chose] to make this movie.”
The filmmaker thinks that political issue spread during the Jakarta gubernatorial election has failed Indonesia’s heroes who had fought for the nation’s independence. The movie encourages Indonesians to unite and fight a new form of colonialism.
The movie was the result of a film workshop hosted by the Bandung Film Council (BFC). Focusing on smartphone cameras, the workshop aimed to overcome the rarity of local film production in Bandung. (jes/kes)
