More than 3,000 people from different communities, universities, schools and dance clubs gathered at the annual Indonesia Menari (Indonesia Dancing) 2017.
Held on Sunday at 1 p.m., the event took place in three different locations in three different cities, namely Grand Indonesia mall in Jakarta, Park Mall in Surakarta, Central Java and Mall 23 Paskal in Bandung, West Java.
Participants danced while wearing a fusion of ethnic and modern costumes. Those who had the best costume came out as the winners, receiving smartphones and cash prizes.
Some local celebrities, such as Fero Walandouw and Yuki Kato in Jakarta, Morgan Oey in Bandung and Ayushita in Surakarta, made appearances at the events and danced alongside the participants.
First held in 2012, Indonesia Menari is a collective dance movement that aims to introduce people to traditional Indonesian dances. It is held every November by Galeri Indonesia Kaya by the Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation. (asw)
