The larger-than-life flower sculpture left a lasting impression at the Dior Homme Summer 2018 Show.
lasting impression was made at the Dior Homme show at Paris Men’s Fashion Week by a monumental 10-meter-high statue made of flowers. A cheeky homage to the brand’s founder Christian Dior, the statue was made by American artist KAWS, aka Brian Donnelly, upon commission from the fashion house.
The statue was positioned as the centerpiece of the show, where designer Kim Jones made his debut for Dior. Its larger-than-life size boasted the look of a hybrid cartoon and human character, a signature of KAWS.
According to a statement released by Dior, no less than 70,000 flowers were used to create the statue, including peonies for the head, hands and feet, and roses for the eyes and suit. The base was made of moss.
The statue is holding a Bobby bottle, a perfume bottle inspired by Christian Dior’s dog Bobby. The bottle stands 1.77 meters high and is made of 3D-printed resin. Around 100 people were involved in building the set, including the statue, taking four days to construct and one day to take down.
Quite a spectacle under the summer sun, the show venue located at the central Paris barracks of the Garde Republicaine, witnessed a star-studded audience including the likes of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham and Robert Pattinson. Some of the celebrity guests were also seen having a good time backstage, and "cuddling" with KAWS’ BFF plush toys.

Apart from the statue commission, Dior also had KAWS re-imagined its iconic bee for Summer 2019. The bee is seen on key chains, necklaces and bags among others. (mut)
