Other than gracing cinemas across the country since late August, fictional Indonesian hero Wiro Sableng is also entering Arena of Valor (AOV) as one of the characters in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game released by China-based Tencent Games.
"We are presenting a very special hero since this is the first local hero from Indonesia, Wiro Sableng; no other country has featured their local hero," said Hans Saleh, the e-commerce business operations head of Garena Indonesia in Jakarta during the AOV Star League Season 2 event on Sept. 16.
According to a statement, it took months for the collaborators, including Lifelike Pictures, Caravan Studio, Tencent Timi Studio, Garena Indonesia and others, to complete the project.
As reported by tempo.co, Garena Indonesia serves as the game platform, which hosts professional tournaments or competitions of AOV games. It recently served as an exhibition event of the Asian Games 2018.
"This AOV Star League Season 2 tournament serves as the first professional event after being featured at the Asian Games 2018. AOV has become an official e-sport after the Games," said Hans.
Launched in August, the Wiro Sableng hero character is expected to attract fans of AOV games in Indonesia, especially as the movie is still being screened in cinemas.
Vino G. Bastian, who plays Wiro in the film, is also involved in the game as a voice actor.
"It is a privilege for me and Bastian Tito as the writer [of Wiro Sableng]. My experience as a voice actor was an exciting one; I particularly adored the words 'hero jaman now ya Wiro Sableng' [the hero of today is Wiro Sableng]," said Vino, who attended the event.
In the AOV game, Wiro Sableng is portrayed similarly to the film, donning all-white clothes, long hair with a headband and his signature mighty axe Kapak Maut Naga Geni 212.

"As a gamer myself back in the day, I'm amazed to find a game that has a local hero and features me as the voice actor. I'm so proud to be able to join in with other heroes from other countries," said Vino.
"The film is only one part of Wiro Sableng; now there's a game that features Wiro Sableng as a hero that can compete with other heroes out there," he added. (kes)
