People magazine has chosen its Sexiest Man Alive for 2018, with the crown going to British actor and DJ Idris Elba.

Late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon announced the news on Monday during NBC’s Tonight Show.

E! News reported that Elba himself was not present in the studio, but appeared via Skype from London to share his thoughts on the title.

“My mum is going to be very proud,” the actor jokingly said, then showed off his muscles and “smoldering look” while thanking People for the honor.

Last year’s title-holder, country music star Blake Shelton commented on Elba’s appointment during his appearance on The Ellen Show.

“I feel like sexy ends when I’m not Sexiest Man Alive anymore,” Shelton joked. “I feel like it’s over.”

Previous honorees of the title include Dwayne Johnson (2016), David Beckham (2015) and Chris Hemsworth (2014).

Meanwhile, the title of Sexiest Chef Alive goes to Louis Maldonado, chef of the highly anticipated Mexican-Moroccan fusion restaurant Amara in San Francisco. (iru/mut)
