An art performance titled Genta Sriwijaya will be held at Taman Ismail Marzuki arts center (TIM) in Central Jakarta on Nov. 20.

Genta Sriwijaya is a modern, colossal theatrical performance that will showcase the history of the Sriwijaya Kingdom. Kenthus Ampiranto, Rangga Djoned and Tohpati have been appointed as stage, art and music directors, respectively.

Creative and show director Denny Malik told a press conference that Genta Sriwijaya would be modernized but closely based on the original story. “We will not stray too far from the origins, but modify it for enjoyable viewing,” Denny said as quoted by kompas.com.

Various singers, actors and athletes will be involved in the performance, including singer Ruth Sahanaya, actress Ivy Batuta and soccer player Bambang Pamungkas. Two hundred people will perform on stage.

Denny said managing and preparing the 200 performers would not be easy. “Because not all of them are professionals,” he said. (iru/kes)
