ndonesian rock group Slank held its 35th anniversary concert on Sunday. Taking place at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Senayan, the concert is titled Indonesia Now.

The highly anticipated concert started at 8:30 p.m., according to a report by Viva.co.id. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who was scheduled to attend the concert but unable to be there, greeted the audience through a video.

Jokowi began his greetings by expressing his condolences to the victims of the Sunda Strait tsunami that hit on Saturday, and he asked everyone to send prayers together and stay strong.

“I am sure that we all could go through [this difficulty] by holding hands and staying together,” Jokowi said in the video.

He went on to thank Slank members, addressing vocalist Kaka, drummer Bimbim, guitarists Abdee and Ridho, bassist Ivanka and the band’s matriarch, Bunda Iffet, as creators of songs whose lyrics and themes always inspire to spread good morals and kindness as Indonesians.

Following the President’s greeting, Kaka asked the audience to bow their heads and send prayers to the tsunami victims, and the first song titled “Solidaritas” (solidarity) played on. (mut)
