Senior director Ali Shahab passes away

The director of Beranak dalam Kubur (Giving Birth inside a Grave) passed away at the age of 77.

Senior director Ali Shahab passed away on Tuesday at the age of 77 after a long battle with illness. 

The news about Ali’s passing was shared via Instagram Stories by his granddaughter and actress Zee Zee Shahab.

"Perhaps many of you recognize him from his directing works in the past," wrote Zee Zee.

According to Antara news agency, Ali was a senior journalist and recognized for starting local soap operas in the 1980s. 

Born in 1941, his directing career spanned from the 1970s to the 2000s. One of his most notable films is Beranak dalam Kubur (Giving Birth Inside a Grave), which featured Indonesian horror film queen Suzzanna.

Among his other renowned works are Gadis Bionik (Bionic Girl, 1982), Manusia 6,000,000 Dollar ($6 Million Man), Bumi Makin Panas (The Earth is Getting Hot, 1973) and the popular soap opera Rumah Masa Depan (Future Home), which aired on state-owned television station TVRI. (wir/kes)
