Dewa 19 concert that had been planned to take place at the Grand City Convention and Exhibition venue in Surabaya, East Java, was called off in the last minute for not having a permit.

The concert was scheduled to run on Sunday evening.

In addition to Dewa 19, the event reportedly would feature Ahmad Dhani’s sons, Ahmad Al Ghazali and Dul Jaelani, and  wife Mulan Jameela.

Kompas.com reported that the organizer had only obtained a crowd gathering permit.

Surabaya Police chief Sr. Comr. Rudi Setiawan said the organizer had yet to obtain a permit to hold a concert.

“The organizer only obtained the crowd gathering permit, as vice-presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno was scheduled to attend the concert,” Rudi explained.

“We only have a crowd gathering permit. We have held a meeting with the East Java Police and Surabaya Police; the permit must be [settled],” said the event’s chairman, Didik Darmadi.

“On behalf of the organizer, we apologize to the concertgoers,” said Didik, adding that they would reschedule the concert to Tuesday and asked ticketholders to return to the venue.

Several concertgoers expressed their disappointment over the cancelation.

“We are really disappointed, as there was no announcement earlier,” said Dea Deanti, who had travelled to Surabaya from Sidoarjo with 17 colleagues.

“We [arrived at the venue] this afternoon,” said Dea. (jes/kes)
