Shazam!, which features the main character being stuck in an adult body while fighting a villain, promises both action and comedy.
hazam! is an American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Shazam aka Captain Marvel. For the first time since 1940, the popular character is coming back to the big screen.
Directed by Swedish filmmaker David F. Sandberg, who is known for horror movies such as Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out, the film is about a 14-year-old teenager transforming into an adult superhero by saying his name.
The orphan, Billy Batson (Asher Angel), moves to a new foster family. One day, after defending his foster brother Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) from bullying schoolmates, he is on the subway on his way home when the train suddenly begins to freeze. Billy finds himself on the Rock of Eternity where an ancient wizard, played by Djimon Hounsou, is looking for a successor. A good soul and someone with a pure heart should be the chosen one to fight the seven deadly sins - pride, envy, greed, anger, sloth, gluttony and lust. Imprisoned, they try to escape and seize power. By shouting his name “Shazam”, the wizard transfers his powers to Billy to save the world.

The boy transforms into an adult wearing a superhero suit, played by Zachary Levi. Together with his “superhero manager” Freddy he discovers his new super powers. The kids have fun uploading YouTube videos of superhero stunts and getting money for Billy’s performances. But the powerful demons of the seven deadly sins escape and take possession of Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong). A fight between good and evil begins.
Billy, stuck in an adult body fighting a villain, promises both action and comedy. All in all, Shazam! is an entertaining and exciting story with a good message in the end – by sticking together as a family and not giving up, good shall triumph. And that there is a superhero in all of us. (sop/kes)
