Illustrator Is Yuniarto’s love of comics and wayang (Javanese shadow puppets) is larger than life.
Is, who is also the general manager of Bumilangit Comics, cannot wait to watch the Gundala movie, which will hit theaters across the country in August.
With Bumilangit Studios as one of its producers, the movie is an adaptation of Gundala Putera Petir (Gundala the Son of Thunder), a popular Indonesian comic book by the late Harya “Hasmi” Suraminata.
The series, which instantly became a hit after it was released in 1969, tells the story of a broken-hearted scientist, Sancaka, who receives incredible superpowers after being struck by lightning. Able to run at great speeds and project thunder from the palm of his hand, he counters daily crime and combats threats against humanity.
Is said that Bumilangit Comics was working on a new comic book based on the movie adaptation.
“The classic Gundala comic book [by Hasmi] is also being remastered because we will republish it,” he said recently at the Jakarta 15th Toys and Comics Fair 2019 in South Jakarta.
