Unites States-based shoemaker Converse has teamed up with Indonesian contemporary artist Hanafi to launch a limited edition of sneakers in honor of the book Bobo: The Traveling Hound.
Bobo: The Traveling Hound follows the journey of adventurer Irma Lengkong Mikkonen with her basset hound named Bobo. Published by Afterhours Books, the book features artwork by Hanafi, who traveled alongside Irma and Bobo to France, Belgium and the Netherlands in 2018.
The High-Top Chuck 70 type of sneaker portrays Hanafi’s illustrations of Bobo. The Chuck 70 is known as one of the most popular basketball shoes in the 1970s.
Branded “Converse x Hanafi”, the sneakers are available for purchase on Afterhours Books’ website with prices starting at Rp 15,000,000 (US$1044). Made from canvas and featuring acrylic paint, the sneakers come in a wooden box.
Earlier this year, Converse launched the Converse Incubate program, in which the brand collaborates with designers, musicians and celebrities, including Golf Le Fleur, Brain Dead, Miley Cyrus, Hello Kitty and Dr Woo. (wir/wng)
