Despite its creators going the extra mile by releasing a second version of essentially the same movie, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame has failed to beat Avatar as the top-grossing movie of all time.
arvel Studios recently released a new version of Avengers: Endgame in an effort to surpass Avatar's US$2.78 billion box office revenue and steal the title of highest grossing movie of all time.
The effort doesn’t seem to be bearing fruit.
As the climax of almost 15 years of storytelling, 23 movies and an extensive cast of heroes, Avengers: Endgame was building up to be the biggest film yet. However, despite fans' huge enthusiasm, the flick "only" grossed around $2.76 billion, trailing Avatar by about $18 million, and spurring Marvel executives to release a new version.

But this new version only adds an 18-second deleted scene, which, according to The Verge was largely seen as “a waste of time and money and beyond disappointing” -- which probably explains why it only collected $7.8 million.
Though disappointed, many Marvel fans reportedly believe Avatar indeed deserves the title. As one fan wrote in the Marvel Studios subreddit, “If Endgame doesn’t beat Avatar (I don’t think it will), it’s because at the end of the day it’s a movie for comic book fans."
"Avatar was a movie for everyone. There are various other factors, but they’ve overall quite minor when compared to how much of an event Avatar truly was," the fan added. (ayr/kes)
