The official teaser for Joko Anwar's upcoming horror film Perempuan Tanah Jahanam (Impetigore) was finally unveiled on Thursday.

The teaser shows scenes featuring the main actors, namely Tara Basro, Asmara Abigail, Marissa Anita and Christine Hakim -- all were also highlighted in the film’s teaser poster. One of the scenes glimpsed in the teaser shows Tara staring at a number of old photos, another shows Marissa being hung upside down.

The teaser creates an eerie ambiance throughout, especially due to the sinister background music and color palette. Days prior to the teaser release, Joko tweeted about the film’s sound mixing process. “It was mixed by sound mixers from Apichatpong [Weerasethakul]’s films,” read the post. Weerasethakul is a Thai filmmaker who received the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2010 for his work, Uncle Bonmee Who can recall his Past Lives.

The teaser ends with Asmara smiling at the camera while saying, “Kerasa nggak (did you feel it)?” in a Javanese accent.

Perempuan Tanah Jahanam is said to be the first out of three films helmed by Joko in collaboration with Ivanhoe Pictures, CJ Entertainment, BASE Entertainment and RAPI Films. The movie features Ario Bayu, Aghniny Haque, Tengku Rifnu and Ical Tanjung and is slated to hit cinemas on Oct. 17. (wir/kes)
