Under the main theme Film Bagus, Citra Indonesia (Quality Film, Indonesia’s Images), which will be used until next year, the 2019 FFI also collaborated with the Education and Culture Ministry, Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) and the Indonesia Film Board (BPI) to encourage both established and aspiring filmmakers to produce films that could meet international standards.

Lukman Sardi, FFI director for the period 2018-2020, said the public screening was aimed at engaging the public while enriching their film literacy.
“We would showcase selected Indonesian films as part of our efforts to engage film stakeholders with the FFI, not only filmmakers but also viewers,” he said during a recent opening of FFI events at Tri Brata convention hall in South Jakarta.
Besides the public screenings, the FFI will also hold an event to coincide with National Cultural Week in October by showcasing cultural-themed films nominated for Citra Awards between 2015 and 2018. In November, the committee will also screen films shortlisted for nomination this year at cities that have an art institution.
Targeting millennials in this engagement mission, the FFI appointed four award-winning actors and actresses, namely Tara Basro, Chicco Jericho, Laura Basuki and Gading Marten; to raise awareness about what has been the festival’s goal since its first installment in 1955.
“[We] will communicate to the public what the FFI is and that it is a benchmark for quality Indonesian films,” Lukman said.
