A

n unhealthy heart can be fatal in the long run and despite this, young people in Indonesia tend to overlook the importance of taking care of this organ.

Indonesian singer and actress Mikha, who was recently named an ambassador for the Indonesian Heart Foundation (YJI), said awareness among people of her generation about maintaining a healthy heart was still very low.

“I decided to join YJI because I want to raise awareness for friends my age, and generations below me, that it is better to prevent [heart disease] now before it is too late,” the 25-year-old Mikha said.

Mikha is also part of YJI’s Millennial Heart Squad, along with 19 other youngsters. They are part of YJI’s I Heart My Heart campaign, which aims to reach more youths in order to raise awareness of heart disease prevention during World Heart Day 2019 on Sept. 29.

“We are here to try and approach our friends who are in the same generation as us and remind them [about heart health] through social media,” explained Mikha.

The campaign will start with a photo challenge, in which the squad invites youngsters to post a photo related to either nutrition, sports or no smoking policy along with the hashtags #iheartmyheart and #sehatitukeren (healthy is cool) on their social media.
