Joko Anwar thriller Perempuan Tanah Jahanam (Impetigore) will be available to stream on GoPlay starting May 20.

Joko said with the movie coming to the streaming service, it would serve those who were curious about the thriller but were too afraid to go to the movie theater.

“Now you can watch it at home with your preferred setting, in a dark room or a bright room, it's up to you. Those who watched it and want to come back to Harjosari village with Maya and Dini can go back there again,” Joko said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara

Perempuan Tanah Jahanam had its international debut at this year's Sundance Film Festival in the United States. It was the only Asian movie screened at the Midnight program of the festival.

The film was screened at this year's Rotterdam Film Festival in the Netherlands and Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden. It was also released in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Perempuan Tanah Jahanam follows the adventure of Maya (Tara Basro) and her friend Dini (Marissa Anita), who trace Maya's ancestry in the mysterious, rural village of Harjosari. She instead finds secrets and a mysterious curse only she can lift.

The film's cast also features Ario Bayu, Christine Hakim, Asmara Abigail and Kiri Narendra.

On May 8, Variety reported that the movie would be streamed by American entertainment company AMC Networks' subscription video-on-demand service Shudder, which had acquired the rights in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom. The acquisition was a second deal for Joko and Shudder, as the latter previously also bought the rights to the filmmaker's Pengabdi Setan (Satan's Slaves), which ended up becoming "one of the network's biggest hits". (gis/wng)
